After years of replacing rotten boards and paying for deck maintenance, we decided to invest in an upgrade to our aging cedar deck. We had admired the design and craftsmanship of a neighbor’s new deck, and they were highly complementary of Jon and Scott’s work. We contacted J&S for an estimate, and right from the beginning we were very impressed! Jon helped us to understand our options on how best to utilize the existing deck frame and footings, reviewed options on design and various materials, and gave us options to save money on the project. Based on Jon’s detailed options and personal attention in the design process, crisp follow-up, and our neighbor’s recommendation, we went forward with J&S using Trex Transcend.

We had our share of challenges with this project, but Jon and Scott proved themselves to be top quality builders with the utmost integrity throughout the project. As the framing was nearing completion, hurricane Sandy rolled through NJ. Jon and Scott removed all building materials, secured all deck boards, and strapped down the dumpster. While massive 80 foot trees fell around us, all the decking materials were safe and secure upon Sandy’s exit. Once the project resumed (with electricity having finally returned to Basking Ridge!), Jon and Scott inspected the lumber yard delivery and found that mismatching dye lots had been delivered. We probably would not have noticed the color variation for some time, but Jon and Scott detected the anomaly right away. Treating our deck as if it were their own, Jon and Scott escalated the product issue through several layers of management, ultimately succeeding in having Trex replace all product at no cost. Once the product issue was behind us, Jon and Scott promptly completed the project.

It would have been much easier for Jon and Scott to have never mentioned the color mismatch, but they did the right thing, advocating for their customer and getting the job done right. They have earned our loyalty, and proven that they work at the highest levels of integrity. We are delighted with our finished deck – the craftsmanship is superb, the Trex Transcend design and lighting system are beautiful, and we will enjoy it with friends and family for many years to come!
